Kigali is counting down to host the 2026 CAVB Men’s Club Championship, marking the first time Rwanda stages Africa’s premier men’s club volleyball tournament.

The 47th edition of the competition will take place from April 20 to May 3, 2026, at BK Arena and Petit Stade Amahoro.

A total of 24 clubs from across the continent will compete, including record champions Al Ahly SC volleyball of Egypt, as well as Espérance de Tunis volleyball. Rwanda will be represented by APR VC, Police VC, and Kepler VC.

The tournament returns to Sub-Saharan Africa for the first time since 2007, when it was hosted in Niger. Historically, clubs from the region have won the title only four times—in 1991, 1992, 2013, and 2017.

In a major technological step, this edition will, for the first time, introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system to support match officiating.

Rwanda secured hosting rights in March 2026 through an agreement between the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) and the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), led by Bouchra Hajij.

Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire said the country is fully prepared to welcome participating teams and fans, describing the event as a key milestone in advancing volleyball in Rwanda and strengthening its profile on the continental stage.
