The Rwanda Defence Force has hosted the 7th session of the Joint Military Cooperation Commission between Rwanda and Russia, bringing together senior defence officials for a three-day meeting focused on strengthening bilateral military ties.

The meeting, which runs from May 20 to 22, serves as an annual platform to assess progress in defence cooperation and explore new areas of partnership between the two countries.

Russian delegates held talks with Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, with discussions centred on priority areas for enhancing military collaboration.

Beyond defence cooperation, Rwanda and Russia recently signed a separate agreement in the health sector aimed at strengthening healthcare systems and building capacity for medical personnel.

The agreement was signed in Geneva between Rwanda’s Minister of Health, Sabin Nsanzimana, and Russia’s Minister of Health, Mikhail Murashko, reflecting continued efforts by both countries to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

The meeting will last three days, from May 20 to May 22, 2026.
