Mozambique’s Minister of National Defence, Cristóvão Artur Chume, has praised Rwanda security forces for their significant role in supporting counterterrorism operations in northern Mozambique, particularly in Cabo Delgado Province.
He made the remarks on Thursday, May 21, 2026, during a visit to Rwandan Security Forces (RSF) deployed in Mocímboa da Praia, where they are engaged in counterterrorism operations and peace support efforts.
The minister was accompanied by Brigadier General Tomás Francisco João Mponha, Deputy Commander of Mozambique’s Land Forces (FADM), along with other senior military officials.
The delegation was received at the RSF headquarters by Brigadier General CM Mujuni, the commander of Rwanda security forces in Cabo Delgado, alongside other senior officers.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the current security situation and ongoing operations aimed at restoring stability in the province.
Chume expressed appreciation for the contribution of Rwanda security forces in improving security in northern Mozambique, particularly in Cabo Delgado.
He also reaffirmed the Mozambican government’s commitment to strengthening the long-standing cooperation and partnership between Mozambique and Rwanda.
