Construction of the Muvumba Water Reservoir project in Nyagatare District has reached 69% completion, with the project expected to support irrigation of more than 10,000 hectares of farmland.

On Thursday, September 24, State Minister in the Ministry of Infrastructure Zingiro Armand visited the project to assess the progress of the ongoing works.

The project also includes the construction of a water treatment plant with an initial capacity of producing 25,000 cubic metres of clean water per day. The plant is expected to eventually reach a production capacity of 50,000 cubic metres per day.

The Muvumba Dam is also expected to generate electricity, contributing to the development of economic activities and improving livelihoods in the area.

The project has been allocated Rwf102.7 billion and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

During his visit to Nyagatare, Minister Zingiro also inspected the construction of an electricity substation, where works have reached 85% completion.

The substation will have the capacity to handle 500 megawatts of electricity, which will support the supply of power to various activities, including irrigation, industries and households.
