The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, has called on young people to prioritize education, seek employment, promote unity, and actively participate in nation-building while remaining vigilant against forces that seek to destabilize the country.

He made the remarks during a commemoration event marking the 32nd anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi held in Kigali Sector, Nyarugenge District.

The ceremony brought together government officials, including the Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth and Arts Development, Sandrine Umutoni, alongside residents who gathered to honor victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, many of whom were killed and thrown into the Nyabarongo River.

Nduhungirehe described the Genocide against the Tutsi as a carefully planned and executed campaign of extermination carried out across the country by the then regime, while the international community largely remained passive.

He commended the Rwanda Patriotic Front (FPR-Inkotanyi) for stopping the genocide, stressing that such atrocities must never be allowed to happen again.

He further urged participants, especially young people, to reject all forms of divisionism and genocide ideology.

The minister emphasized that Rwanda’s future depends on disciplined, educated, and united youth committed to development and national resilience.

He encouraged them to focus on education and productive work as key drivers of personal and national progress.

He also underscored that safeguarding national unity and protecting the country’s gains remains a shared responsibility, warning against any attempts to reverse the progress Rwanda has achieved.
