Niyonkuru Samuel of Team Amani has won the 2026 National Cycling Road Race title in the men’s elite and under-23 category, while Valentine Nzayisenga claimed victory in the women’s elite race as the national championships concluded on Sunday.
The final day featured a 158-kilometre road race that took riders through Batsinda, Shyorongi, Base, Gicumbi, Rukomo, and Nyacyonga in a demanding test of endurance and strategy.
In the men’s under-23 category, Niyonkuru delivered a dominant performance to secure the road race title, capping a successful campaign at the national championships.
He had earlier won the individual time trial (ITT), clocking 50 minutes and 10 seconds. He was followed by teammate Muhoza Eric, who finished 29 seconds behind, while Nshutiraguma Kevin of Cine Elmay placed third, 37 seconds off the pace. The double victory confirmed Niyonkuru’s strong form across both disciplines.
In the women’s elite category, Valentine Nzayisenga clinched the national title, marking a return to the top after seven years.
In the junior women’s category, Donatha Akimana of Ngarama Sports Academy claimed victory on her debut national championship appearance, edging competitors including Masengesho Yvonne (Black Mamba), Kanyange Emeline (Bugesera), and Uwase Ancille (Bugesera).
In the junior men’s race, Pacifique Byusa of Les Amis Sportifs completed a double triumph after also winning the individual time trial, underlining his dominance in the category at this year’s championships.
