The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has introduced special regulations for the revamped Super Cup, including a decision to remove the foreign-player limit that applies to other domestic competitions.
Under the new rules, clubs competing in the Super Cup will be allowed to field any number of eligible foreign players, giving coaches greater flexibility in selecting their squads.
The 2026 Super Cup will be played under a new four-team format, with the semi-finals scheduled for Thursday, August 27, at Kigali Pelé Stadium.
Kiyovu Sports will face Mukura VS&L at 3 p.m., while Rayon Sports will meet Police FC at 6:30 p.m. The winners will advance to the final on August 30.
Another major change is the handling of drawn matches. If a semi-final or the final is level after 90 minutes, the winner will be determined directly by a penalty shootout, with no extra time.
Each club will be allowed to list 20 players on the official match sheet and make up to seven substitutions. The substitutions must be made during a maximum of three stoppages, excluding changes made at half-time.
FERWAFA has also set rules for clubs that wish to withdraw from the competition. A club intending to pull out must notify the federation in advance, while FERWAFA retains the authority to determine how the tournament proceeds.
Clubs that violate the special regulations after receiving them will face a Rwf10 million fine, which must be paid before they can participate in another FERWAFA-organised competition.
Additional disciplinary measures may also be imposed by FERWAFA’s Disciplinary Committee, depending on the nature of the violation.
The 2026 edition is the first Super Cup to feature four teams, following the federation’s decision to expand the competition from its traditional two-team format.
The tournament has also received a major financial boost, with the winner set to receive Rwf40 million and the runner-up Rwf20 million.
The combination of the expanded format, increased prize money and special competition rules makes this year’s Super Cup one of the most significantly revised editions of the tournament.
