A 40-year-old woman, a mother of three and currently pregnant with her fourth child, in Rwabicuma Sector of Nyanza District is recovering after a suspected suicide attempt linked to a family dispute.

The incident occurred in Kigarama Village, Runga Cell, where the woman reportedly ingested pesticides in an apparent attempt to end her life.

Local authorities say the incident is believed to have been triggered by ongoing tensions with her mother, reportedly stemming from disapproval over her repeated childbirths while living at her parental home.

Rwabicuma Sector Executive Secretary, Ange Kayigi, confirmed that the woman was rescued in time and given urgent medical attention.

“She took poison in an attempt to take her own life, but she was quickly assisted before it was too late,” Kayigi said.

She was first rushed to Cyaratsi Health Centre before being transferred to Nyanza District Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities say her condition has since stabilized and she is expected to be discharged soon.

Local leaders have urged residents to resolve family conflicts through dialogue and to seek support, emphasizing that self-harm is not a solution to domestic challenges.
