Police have arrested eight men suspected of carrying out night-time robberies targeting residents in Nyamabuye Sector, Muhanga District.
The suspects were arrested during the night of September 11-12 in an operation involving police, local authorities and residents.
Police said the suspects allegedly targeted people at night and stole money, mobile phones, handbags and other valuables.
CIP Hassan Kamanzi, police spokesperson for the Southern Province, warned people involved in criminal activities to stop or face arrest and prosecution.
“We warn anyone who still has the mindset or behaviour of disrupting public security and peace to stop immediately. Anyone who engages in such activities will be arrested, detained and handed over to investigators for the law to take its course,” Kamanzi said.
The suspects are being held at Nyamabuye Police Station as investigations continue. Their case will be submitted to the prosecution after investigators complete the necessary procedures.
Police credited residents’ timely reporting with helping authorities identify and arrest the suspects.
“Security is everyone’s responsibility. We thank residents who understand this and continue to provide information quickly to help prevent crimes before they happen,” Kamanzi said.
Police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious people or activities, particularly during the night.
Police and local authorities said joint efforts with communities to prevent and respond to crime will continue.
