Police VC are in advanced talks to sign two former Kepler VC players, libero Niyigena Jules and middle blocker Nkurunziza John, as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
Both players are available after their contracts with Kepler VC expired. The club has already confirmed that it will not take part in next season’s national championship.
Niyigena, who was named the league’s best libero this season, has already joined Police VC training as the two sides work towards completing a deal.
Police VC are looking to add the experienced defender following the return of Manzi Sadulu to APR VC. Sadulu spent two seasons with Police VC before rejoining APR.
Niyigena has previously played for UTB, REG VC, EAUR VC and Gisagara VC. At Police VC, he would provide another option in the libero position alongside Irakoze Alain and Matsiko Salomon.
Nkurunziza is also being targeted to bolster Police VC’s options at middle blocker. The player had been linked with a move to Gisagara VC before joining the national team for the African Volleyball Championship in Tunisia.
The middle blocker brings experience from previous spells with clubs including Gisagara VC and UTB VC.
Police VC communications officer and spokesperson Imana Isaac Rabbin recently told Umunota that the women’s team had completed its recruitment, while the men’s side still needed to strengthen its squad.
The club has so far added two new players to its men’s team: Brazilian-based outside hitter Matheus Bettim, popularly known as ‘Sekamana’, who spent the past year playing in Brazil, and setter Ganza Nolan Enzo, who recently completed secondary school at Nyanza TSS.
Since the club was established in 2021 under the name Forefront VC, Police VC have yet to win the national championship, although they have collected other trophies along the way.
