Addis Ababa, February 13, 2026 – Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Paul Kagame at the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
The high-level summit, scheduled for February 14–15, 2026, will convene African leaders under the theme: “Ensuring sustainable water availability and sanitation systems to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063.”
Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, Dr. Nsengiyumva was received by Ethiopia’s Minister for Peace, Mohamed Edris, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.
On the sidelines of the AU summit, the Prime Minister is also set to attend the second Italy–Africa Summit on February 13. The meeting will assess progress under Italy’s “Mattei Plan,” a strategic initiative designed to strengthen political and economic cooperation between Italy and African nations.
Through the Mattei Plan, Italy has pledged more than Frw 71 billion in financial support to Rwanda for climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives.
On February 15, Dr. Nsengiyumva will further participate in a meeting of the African Union committee dedicated to addressing the situation in South Sudan.
The AU summit is expected to focus on advancing sustainable development priorities, with particular emphasis this year on water access and sanitation as key pillars for Africa’s long-term socio-economic transformation.
