Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr Justin Nsengiyumva, will represent President Paul Kagame at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, United States.
Nsengiyumva is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, where he is expected to outline Rwanda’s priorities on key issues affecting Africa and the wider region.
During UNGA 81, the prime minister is also expected to participate in high-level discussions and meetings with heads of state and government, as well as engagements with international partners aimed at strengthening Rwanda’s cooperation with other countries and international organisations.
The general debate of the 81st General Assembly is scheduled to run from September 22 to 28.
The week will also feature high-level discussions on climate change, the right to development, sea-level rise, pandemic prevention and preparedness, as well as issues related to peace, security and sustainable development.
Other issues on the agenda include peace, security and justice; sustainable development; climate change; human rights; humanitarian assistance; refugees and migrants; and the governance of technology and artificial intelligence.
The General Assembly takes place as the international community faces ongoing wars and conflicts, humanitarian crises, inequality and the growing impacts of climate change.
