Rayon Sports Women have completed the signing of Kenyan goalkeeper Khwaka Valentine from Mathare United as the club steps up preparations for the 2026/27 season and the upcoming CECAFA qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Rwandan champions confirmed the transfer on Tuesday, adding one of Kenya’s standout goalkeepers to a squad aiming to qualify for the continental showpiece.

Khwaka arrives after an impressive campaign with Mathare United, where she played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Kenyan Women’s Premier League. She kept 19 clean sheets in 21 league matches and conceded just three goals throughout the season.

Her performances also saw her named Best Goalkeeper at the 2025 Empower Mchezaji Awards.

At Rayon Sports, the Kenyan international will compete for a starting place alongside Ndakimana Angeline, the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, and Umutoni Raissa under head coach Claude Rwaka.

Although the signing was officially announced on Tuesday, the deal had already been finalized, with Khwaka among the new recruits unveiled during Rayon Day at Kigali Pelé Stadium on July 18.

Rayon Sports Women are currently training at the SKOL Ground in Nzove as they prepare for the new season, with their immediate focus on the CECAFA qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The regional qualifying tournament will be hosted in Rwanda from August 21 to September 5, with the draw scheduled for July 30 at Amahoro Stadium.

Last year, Rayon Sports came within one win of reaching the CAF Women’s Champions League but were beaten by Tanzania’s JKT Queens in the final of the CECAFA qualifiers.
