Rayon Sports Women FC have welcomed Uganda national team captain Zaina Namulema after she arrived in Kigali to begin her stint with the Rwandan champions.
The 26-year-old midfielder touched down in Rwanda on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after signing a two-year contract with Rayon Sports following the end of her time at Kenya Police Bullets.
Namulema becomes the first Ugandan player to join Rayon Sports Women and was among the new signings expected to be unveiled during Rayon Day 2026 on July 18, but she missed the presentation after failing to arrive in time.
The experienced midfielder is expected to play a key role as Rayon Sports prepare for the 2026/27 season, particularly the CECAFA qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League, which will be held in Rwanda from August 22 to September 6, 2026.
Rayon Sports missed out on a place in the continental tournament last season after suffering a 1-0 defeat to JKT Queens in the CECAFA final.
Namulema brings significant experience to the club, having established herself as one of Uganda’s top players since joining Kampala Queens in 2016, where she later became captain.
She went on to play for Makerere University in 2024 before moving to Kenya Police Bullets, where she helped the club win the Kenyan Women’s Premier League title.
Rayon Sports Women began preparations for the new season on Monday with their first training session at Skol Stadium in Nzove, as they look to defend their domestic success and make another push for continental qualification.
