The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police have donated livestock to vulnerable residents in Kirehe and Kayonza districts as part of ongoing community outreach programs aimed at improving livelihoods.

The distribution exercise took place on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Nasho Sector, Kirehe District, where households affected by prolonged drought received 100 goats and two cows.

Kirehe District Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development, Nzirabatinya Modeste, commended the initiative, saying it reflects the continued role of security institutions in improving community welfare alongside their core mandate of maintaining security.

He said the support strengthens the partnership between citizens and security organs while contributing to national development efforts.

“These activities strengthen the bond between citizens and security organs, and they also reflect the country’s development journey, where the focus is now on development rather than conflict,” he said.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the livestock will improve their livelihoods through milk production and the provision of manure to enhance agricultural productivity.

“We thank the Rwanda Defence Force for protecting us and now also recognizing our needs by bringing us livestock. We will take care of them. We also thank His Excellency the President of the Republic for driving this development,” one beneficiary said.

The campaign will continue throughout the week in different sectors, including Nasho in Kirehe District and Ndego, Mwili, Kabare, and Rwinkwavu in Kayonza District. In total, 910 goats and six cows are expected to be distributed across the targeted areas.

In addition to livestock support, RDF and Police are providing medical services, improving access to clean water in underserved areas, and supporting other community development activities.

Over the past three months, joint outreach programs by RDF and Police have focused on healthcare, infrastructure rehabilitation, environmental protection, and livestock distribution. The campaign is expected to conclude around the Liberation Day celebrations on July 4.
