Cadets from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Military Academy have held an in-depth discussion with senior military leaders at RDF Headquarters in Kimihurura, as part of efforts to deepen their understanding of Rwanda’s liberation struggle.
The session marked the conclusion of a study tour focused on the history of the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) liberation war, which played a key role in ending the Genocide against the Tutsi and restoring national unity.
The cadets were addressed by Gen (Rtd) James Kabarebe, Senior Security Advisor in the Office of the President, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff of RDF, Gen MK Mubarakh, as well as other senior generals and officers who participated in the liberation struggle.
The senior officers shared first-hand accounts of the liberation war, highlighting the challenges, sacrifices, and strategic decisions that shaped Rwanda’s path to freedom and stability.
The cadets had spent several days on a field study tour visiting key historical sites linked to the liberation struggle and the campaign to stop the Genocide against the Tutsi, as part of their professional military training aimed at strengthening historical awareness and leadership development.
