Rutsiro FC and AS Muhanga slipped deeper into relegation trouble on Saturday after suffering costly defeats in the closing stages of the Rwanda Premier League season, while Amagaju FC boosted their survival hopes with a crucial away victory.
AS Muhanga fell 2–0 at home to Al Hilal SC at Muhanga Stadium, as Amagaju FC secured a vital 2–1 win over Rutsiro FC in Rubavu. In Kigali, Etincelles FC earned a valuable point after drawing 2–2 with Gasogi United.
The results leave AS Muhanga in 17th place and Rutsiro FC bottom of the table in 18th, with both clubs remaining in the relegation zone as the league enters its decisive final three matches.
Amagaju FC climbed to 14th place with 31 points, significantly improving their chances of avoiding relegation after a key victory against one of their direct rivals.
AS Kigali, currently 15th with 29 points, were preparing for a difficult clash against APR FC knowing that even a single point could prove decisive in the survival race.
Rutsiro FC now face an even tougher path to safety with difficult fixtures remaining against APR FC, AS Kigali and Bugesera FC, while AS Muhanga still have matches against Kiyovu Sports, Amagaju FC and Marines FC.
At the top end of the table, Al Hilal SC continue to lead the standings with 70 points and a game in hand, followed by Al Merreikh SC on 58 points with two matches in hand. APR FC sit third with 56 points ahead of their encounter with AS Kigali.
With only three rounds remaining before the end of the 34-match season, the fight to avoid relegation is rapidly becoming one of the league’s defining storylines.
