Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, has held talks with his Malian counterpart, Abdoulaye Diop, on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The talks took place on October 12, 2026, during Nduhungirehe’s working visit to Mali.
The two ministers discussed cooperation in various sectors of mutual interest, with a focus on improving the well-being of citizens in both countries.
“During my working visit to Mali, I met with my counterpart and friend, Abdoulaye Diop,” Nduhungirehe said.
During the visit, Nduhungirehe also met Ismaël Wagué, Mali’s Minister of National Reconciliation, for discussions on cooperation between the two countries, particularly sharing Rwanda’s and Mali’s experiences in promoting national unity.
The two officials exchanged views on promoting national unity and reconciliation, strengthening stability and security, and identifying solutions to shared peace and security challenges.
Rwanda has gained experience in national unity and reconciliation following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The country has established various programmes and institutions aimed at rebuilding trust, improving social relations and strengthening unity among Rwandans.
Mali, meanwhile, continues to face security challenges and conflict, making peace and social cohesion key priorities in its efforts to achieve lasting stability.
