Rwanda Army Chief visits peacekeepers in CAR, commends professionalism

Vincent Nyakarundi, the Chief of Land Forces of the Rwanda Defence Force, has visited Rwandan peacekeepers deployed under the United Nations mission in the Central African Republic, where he praised their professionalism and dedication in peacekeeping operations.

Maj Gen Nyakarundi visited the troops on Monday, May 11, 2026, during an official mission to the country, accompanied by a delegation from the Rwanda Defence Force.

During the visit, he met members of Rwanda Battalion One (RWABATT-1) stationed at Socatel M’Poko camp in Bangui.

He delivered a message of appreciation from RDF leadership, commending the soldiers for their discipline, professionalism, and commitment in carrying out duties under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic.

Maj Gen Nyakarundi also briefed the troops on the security situation in Rwanda and across the wider region.

According to RDF, the visit forms part of efforts to strengthen long-standing military cooperation between Rwanda and the Central African Republic.

The delegation is also expected to visit other Rwandan contingents deployed under both UN peacekeeping missions and bilateral defence cooperation agreements between the two countries.
