Rwanda’s men’s national basketball team has dropped two places to 84th in the latest FIBA world rankings, while remaining 14th in Africa.
The latest ranking, released on September 1, puts Rwanda on 148.1 points among 159 countries worldwide. Rwanda had been ranked 82nd in the previous update.
Despite the decline globally, Rwanda’s position in Africa remains unchanged at 14th among 31 ranked countries.
The drop comes amid a difficult period for the national team. Rwanda’s most recent victory was a 81-71 win over Gabon in an AfroBasket qualifier in February 2025.
Since then, the team has gone nine matches without a win, according to the figures provided by the Rwandan Basketball Federation.
Rwanda had moved up four places to 82nd in the previous ranking released in July, but has now slipped back two positions.
At the top of the global rankings, the United States remain first with 952.3 points, followed by Germany and France.
In Africa, South Sudan are the highest-ranked team, while Uganda are the best-placed East African side at 80th globally and 13th in Africa.
Rwanda’s latest ranking underlines the challenge facing the national team as it seeks to regain consistency on the international stage.
