Rwanda has expanded its diplomatic representation in Southeast Asia after Ambassador Innocent Muhizi presented his credentials to Brunei’s Sultan, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, accrediting him to represent Kigali in the oil-rich Asian nation.

The ceremony took place on October 19 at Istana Nurul Iman, the Sultan’s official palace in Brunei Darussalam.

Muhizi, who serves as Rwanda’s ambassador to Singapore, will continue to operate from Singapore while representing Rwanda’s interests in Brunei.

The accreditation is expected to strengthen bilateral engagement, particularly in trade, investment and people-to-people cooperation, according to the Rwandan Embassy in Singapore.

Brunei, located on the island of Borneo, has an economy largely driven by oil and natural gas, making it a potential partner for Rwanda’s efforts to broaden economic ties across Asia.

Rwanda has been seeking to expand its diplomatic and commercial relationships with Asian countries to attract investment, increase trade and create new opportunities for economic cooperation.
