Rwanda’s men’s volleyball national team has named a 21-player provisional squad as preparations begin for the African Volleyball Championship scheduled to take place in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, next month.
Head coach Frédéric Guérin announced the squad on Saturday, with the selected players set to begin training before the final team list is confirmed.
The provisional selection includes several new faces, with setter Nolan Enzo Ganza of Nyanza TSS among the players receiving his first call-up to the senior national team.
Other first-time selections include Ntawiha Kenny and Munyamahoro D’amour of APR VC, Munyinya Thierry of Kirehe VC, Rukundo Willy of Gisagara VC, Mugisha Jean Santerre of REG VC and Rwanyonga Alex of Police VC.
Several experienced players who have featured regularly for Rwanda were not included in the provisional squad, including Muvara Ronard, Ndayisaba Sylvestre and Niyogosubizo Samuel “Tayson.”
Meanwhile, Sibomana Placide “Madison” has been added to the technical team, where he will support the coaching staff in improving players’ performance.
The team will use the training period to prepare for the continental tournament, with coach Guérin expected to name the final squad ahead of Rwanda’s departure for Kinshasa.
