Rwanda’s women’s volleyball team have reached the semi-finals of the African Championship after defeating Ghana 3-1 in the quarter-finals in Nairobi.
Rwanda opened strongly at Kasarani Indoor Arena, winning the first set 25-17 before Ghana levelled the match with a 26-24 victory in the second.
The second set was a setback for Rwanda, who committed 19 errors and conceded their first set of the tournament.
Coach Frédéric Guérin’s side responded immediately, winning the third set 25-19 before closing out the match with a 25-18 victory in the fourth.
Rwanda had entered the quarter-finals after sweeping Burkina Faso 3-0 in the round of 16, while Ghana advanced after beating Zambia 3-1.
The victory puts Rwanda into the last four, where they will face the winner of the quarter-final between Egypt and Tunisia.
Cameroon also booked a semi-final place after defeating Uganda 3-0. The Cameroonians will meet the winner of the quarter-final between Kenya and Algeria.
Ghana and Uganda, meanwhile, will move into the classification matches for positions fifth to eighth.
Rwanda’s latest victory keeps the team’s campaign on course for a place in the African Championship final. The team will now await its semi-final opponent as the knockout stage continues in Nairobi.
