Rwanda’s women’s national volleyball team completed a perfect group-stage campaign at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Championship after sweeping Burundi 3–0 on Thursday in Nairobi.
The victory gave Rwanda nine points from three matches and confirmed Frédéric Guérin’s side as winners of Pool D without dropping a single set. Rwanda had earlier defeated Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, both by 3–0 margins.
Rwanda dominated Burundi from the opening serve, winning the first set 25–6 in 18 minutes before taking the second 25–11 after 22 minutes.
The Rwandan side completed the sweep with a 25–13 victory in the third set, bringing the match to an end after just 58 minutes.
The result confirmed Burundi at the bottom of Pool D, while the Democratic Republic of Congo and Algeria remained in contention for second place. Pool D comprises Rwanda, Algeria, DR Congo and Burundi.
Rwanda’s perfect group-stage record puts the team in a strong position heading into the knockout phase of the continental championship.
The 2026 tournament is being held in Nairobi from August 25 to September 5, with 15 teams competing after Morocco’s withdrawal. The African champions will earn qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, while the top three finishers will qualify for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship.
