Rwandan soldiers and police officers serving under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Malakal, South Sudan, joined fellow peacekeepers in a large-scale community clean-up exercise aimed at improving living conditions for residents relocating from displacement camps.
The operation focused on clearing scrap metal and hazardous waste from the Hai Matar and Hai Luakat areas, where communities are being resettled following years of instability.
Residents praised the initiative, noting that the abandoned debris had posed safety risks and hindered farming activities critical to livelihoods in the area.
As part of broader humanitarian support efforts, Rwandan peacekeepers also provided clean water to vulnerable residents, reinforcing ongoing efforts to improve public health, community welfare, and stability in the region.
The intervention reflects Rwanda’s continued contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations through community protection, humanitarian assistance, and post-conflict recovery support.
