Rwandan peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) have been urged to remain vigilant and maintain professionalism as they carry out their mandate to protect civilians and support security in the country.
The call was made on October 6, 2026, when the RWANBATT-2 contingent received Brigadier General Selom Kwasi Amengor, the newly appointed commander for the mission’s northern sector, during his visit to Malakal.
Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ndahiro, who commands the Rwandan contingent in Malakal, briefed Amengor on the unit’s operations, capabilities and responsibilities, with particular emphasis on civilian protection and maintaining security in its area of responsibility.
Amengor commended the Rwandan peacekeepers for their commitment, discipline, professionalism and resilience in challenging operating conditions.
He urged them to remain focused on their mandate and continue serving the people of South Sudan with professionalism, impartiality and integrity.
The UN official also encouraged the troops to remain prepared to respond to changing security conditions and adapt to emerging challenges.
He said effective leadership in peacekeeping operations depends on clear communication, trust, teamwork and mutual understanding among personnel.
Amengor noted Rwanda’s long-standing contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations and expressed confidence that RWANBATT-2 would continue that record.
The visit comes as UN peacekeepers continue to operate in a complex security environment in South Sudan, where protecting civilians remains one of the mission’s key responsibilities.
