Rwanda’s industrial output increased by 6.8% in August 2026 compared with the same month in 2025, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR).

The monthly Industrial Production Index (IIP) report, released on October 4, 2026, shows that the sector continued to expand, driven largely by higher output in mining and quarrying, manufacturing, and electricity generation.

Mining and quarrying output increased by 26%, while manufacturing rose by 4.8%. Electricity generation grew by 17.6%, while water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 10.5%.

NISR said the growth in industrial output was also supported by increased production across several manufacturing subsectors.

Food production rose by 7%, while the production of non-metallic mineral products, including cement, glass and tiles, increased by 10.4%. Production of fabricated metal products, machinery and other equipment also grew by 10.8%.

On the other hand, the production of beverages and tobacco fell by 3.2%. Output from wood products, paper and printing activities increased by 7.3%.

In June 2026, NISR reported that Rwanda’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached Rwf6.346 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, up from Rwf5.276 trillion recorded in the first quarter of 2025. This represented a 10% increase.

During the quarter, the industrial sector accounted for 24% of the country’s GDP, while its output increased by 13%.
