Oman-based airline SalamAir has officially started operating flights between Muscat and Kigali, opening a new air connection expected to strengthen cooperation between Rwanda and Oman in tourism, trade and investment.
The airline’s first flight touched down at Kigali International Airport in Kanombe on Tuesday, marking the start of regular services between the two cities.
The launch followed an inauguration ceremony held at Muscat International Airport in Oman on Monday, where officials and stakeholders gathered to mark the opening of the new route.
SalamAir began selling tickets for the Kigali route on April 30, 2026, with the inaugural flight carrying an Omani delegation that travelled to Rwanda to take part in celebrations marking the new connection.
The airline will operate flights between Muscat and Kigali twice a week, with services scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday.
The new route is expected to provide increased travel opportunities for businesspeople, tourists and investors while strengthening links between Rwanda and the Gulf region.
SalamAir views Kigali as a strategic destination in its expansion plans and aims to use the Rwandan capital as a gateway to increase its operations and connectivity across East Africa.
The launch comes as Rwanda continues efforts to expand international air links and position Kigali as a regional hub for business, tourism and investment.
