Somali authorities have confirmed the arrest and repatriation of Jama Abdi Mohamud, a former doctor accused of raping a woman in Qardho, Puntland, and sharing indecent images.
According to the Office of the Attorney General of Somalia, Mohamud fled to Rwanda after the charges were filed. He was later arrested through a joint operation involving the Rwandan authorities, Interpol, the Somali Police, and the Somali Prosecutor’s Office.
As reported by Dawan Africa, the suspect was deported to Somalia on Saturday, October 18, 2025, arriving at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport, where he was immediately handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning. He is expected to appear in court soon to face trial.
The Somali Prosecutor’s Office expressed gratitude to the Government of Rwanda, Interpol, and Somali Police for their effective collaboration in bringing the suspect to justice.
The office reiterated its commitment to fighting gender-based violence and protecting the dignity and rights of Somali women.
