Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced plans to visit Rwanda in the near future, expressing warmth and affection toward the country and its people.
In a message posted on X, Gen Muhoozi said he looks forward to meeting President Paul Kagame and reconnecting with what he described as his “Rwandan family.”
“I am coming to visit our home in Rwanda very soon. I will be very happy to see my uncle, Afande Kagame, again. I also look forward to being with our Rwandan brothers and sisters,” he wrote.
Gen Muhoozi last visited Rwanda in March 2025 on an official working trip focused on regional security cooperation. During that visit, he toured the Rwanda Defence Force headquarters and the Rwanda Military Academy in Nyakinama, Musanze District, where he delivered a lecture to officer cadets on the importance of strengthening military cooperation as a pillar of Africa’s security.
He later expressed appreciation to President Kagame, First Lady Jeannette Kagame, and Rwanda’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Mubarakah Muganga, for the hospitality extended to him.
In August 2024, Gen Muhoozi also attended President Kagame’s inauguration ceremony in Kigali.
The Ugandan army chief has consistently expressed admiration for Rwanda and has played a visible role in efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Kigali and Kampala in recent years.
