Social media users have been invited to take part in a short video competition aimed at promoting the values of Umuganura, with the top winner set to receive Rwf1 million.
The competition, dubbed “Umunota w’Umuganura 2026” (One Minute of Umuganura 2026), was launched by the Rwanda Cultural Heritage Academy ahead of the annual Umuganura celebrations scheduled for Friday, August 7, 2026.
The initiative seeks to encourage social media users, particularly young people, to create and share videos highlighting the meaning, importance and cultural values associated with Umuganura.
Organizers said the competition aims to promote values such as unity, patriotism, hard work, cooperation, self-reliance and solidarity among Rwandans.
This year’s competition is being held under the theme: “Umuganura, a source of unity and a foundation for self-reliance.”
The best three participants will receive prizes, with the first-place winner awarded Rwf1 million. Other participants who rank among the top 10 will also receive awards, including cash prizes and other recognitions.
To qualify, participants must use at least one popular social media platform, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X or YouTube Shorts, and have at least 2,000 followers on one of the platforms.
The competition is open to individuals, groups and content creators who publish videos on social media.
Submitted videos must be between 40 seconds and one minute long and should explain what Umuganura means, its importance and the values it represents, while encouraging citizens to participate in the celebration.
The Rwanda Cultural Heritage Academy said the competition is part of efforts to promote Rwanda’s cultural heritage through digital platforms and engage younger generations in preserving traditional values.
