Brazilian outside hitter Matheus Bettim has returned to Police VC after one season in Brazil, where he featured for top-flight side Viapol Vôlei São José.
The 25-year-old attacker is set to make his comeback to the Rwanda Volleyball League as Police VC strengthens its squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Bettim’s spell in Brazil proved challenging as he struggled to secure regular playing time, while his team endured a difficult season, finishing 10th among 12 clubs and only avoiding relegation after winning their final match.
Despite not playing in Rwanda’s domestic league last season, Bettim was recalled by Police VC for the 2026 CAVB Men’s Club Championship hosted in Rwanda, where he played a key role in the club’s historic campaign.
Police VC reached the continental final for the first time, becoming the first Rwandan club to achieve the milestone. Their title hopes were ended by Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly SC, who secured a 3-0 victory in the final.
Bettim first joined Police VC during the 2023/24 season and quickly established himself as one of the team’s leading performers. In the following season, he helped the club reach the Rwanda Volleyball League final, where they were defeated by APR VC in a three-match series.
Renowned for his attacking power, defensive reception and serving ability, Bettim is expected to play a crucial role for Police VC as the club targets success in the upcoming season.
He will compete for a place in the starting lineup alongside fellow outside hitters Gideon Angiro, Eric Kwizera, Patrick Ishimwe and Gasore Niyonzima.
