Government Spokesperson Yolande Makolo has welcomed Jean Maurice Uwera, who has been appointed to serve as her deputy following his new assignment.

Makolo shared the message on X after the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, which appointed a Deputy Government Spokesperson after the position had remained vacant for a prolonged period.

“I wish you success in your new responsibilities, Uwera. Warm welcome and congratulations. We are pleased to work with you at the Office of the Government Spokesperson,” Makolo wrote.

Uwera responded, saying: “Thank you very much. I am delighted to work with you.”

Jean Maurice Uwera also expressed gratitude to President Paul Kagame for entrusting him with the role, pledging to serve with dedication.

“I sincerely thank His Excellency the President of the Republic for the confidence placed in me through this appointment as Deputy Government Spokesperson. I commit to contributing to efforts that advance the welfare of Rwandans and place citizens at the centre,” he said.

Uwera Jean Maurice, a former journalist and Managing Director of Radio SK FM, was appointed Deputy Government Spokesperson of Rwanda.

He is widely known for his work at the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), particularly through programmes such as Waramutse Rwanda and television news broadcasts on Rwanda Television.

The newly appointed Deputy Government Spokesperson studied journalism and communication at the Catholic Institute of Kabgayi, located in central Rwanda, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree.
