Rwandan Defence Force (RDF) and Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) commanders have met in Ngoma District for the 14th joint border security meeting between the two countries.
The meeting, taking place from December 2 to 4, 2025, focuses on assessing cross-border security challenges and strengthening cooperation to address them.
The TPDF delegation, led by Brig Gen Gabriel Elias Kwiligwa, Commander of the TPDF 202 Brigade, was received by Maj Gen Ruki Karusisi, Commander of the RDF 5th Division.
Upon arrival in Rwanda, the Tanzanian delegation visited Kirehe District authorities and was welcomed by Mayor Bruno Rangira, who briefed them on issues faced by residents who cross the border between Kirehe District and Tanzania’s Ngara District.
The first day of the meeting included a field visit to border communities affected by persistent security concerns. The delegations toured Mitako in Nyamugali Sector and Bitarimpura in Kigarama Sector, both in Kirehe District.
Both sides agreed on the need for urgent measures to curb illegal cross-border activities and to promote joint economic initiatives that will benefit communities living along the shared border.
RDF and TPDF last met for the 13th joint border meeting in September this year.
