The Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Monday, 22 December 2025, officially inducted 1,903 newly trained police officers, a move expected to bolster national security and enhance public safety across the country.

The officers completed nine months of intensive training at the Gishari Police Training School in Rwamagana District. The graduation ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Internal Security, Dr. Vincent Biruta, and attended by the Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, alongside senior security officials.

Of the newly inducted officers, 40 will be deployed to the Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS), while 178 were trained at the National Police College in Musanze, where they are also pursuing university-level studies in various fields.

Training at Gishari initially enrolled 1,748 recruits, with 1,725 successfully completing the program. Twenty-three trainees were unable to graduate due to health-related challenges and disciplinary issues inconsistent with police values.

The graduates received professional training in core policing competencies, including law enforcement operations, weapons handling, physical fitness, ethics and discipline, crisis response, community policing, traffic safety, and public order management.

Addressing the graduates, Dr. Biruta emphasized the central role of security in Rwanda’s development, drawing lessons from the country’s history.

“Our past reminds us that security must always be a national priority,” he said, noting that Rwanda’s progress over the last three decades has been driven by unity, good leadership, and sustained peace.

The Minister urged the new officers to uphold professionalism, integrity, and discipline, and to work closely with other institutions to combat crimes that continue to affect communities, including drug abuse, theft, assault, alcohol-related offenses, and road accidents.

Despite overall stability, Dr. Biruta stressed that maintaining public safety requires constant vigilance and proactive policing to ensure citizens continue to live and work in a secure environment.
