The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Second Division, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) on Tuesday conducted a large-scale tree-planting exercise in Bisiga Village, Gashoro Sector, Burera District, as part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation and community development.
During the activity, more than 10,000 avocado trees were planted, contributing to reforestation and sustainable livelihood initiatives in the area.
The exercise was attended by the Governor of the Northern Province, Maurice Mugabowagahunde, and the Mayor of Burera District, Solina Mukamana, alongside other local and national leaders.
Governor Mugabowagahunde commended the joint initiative and the participation of local residents, describing it as a valuable contribution to environmental protection. He also praised the strong collaboration between institutions and communities, and acknowledged the International Crane Foundation (ICF) for providing the seedlings.
The Commander of the RDF Second Division, Brigadier General Deo Rusanganwa, urged residents to ensure proper care of the planted trees to guarantee their growth and long-term benefits. He reaffirmed the commitment of the institutions involved to continue supporting development initiatives that improve community welfare.
The event was also attended by senior officials including Assistant Commissioner of Police Edmond Kalisa, the Regional Police Commander, and Lieutenant Colonel Charles Kamali, the Provincial Commander of the Reserve Force.
The initiative aligns with Rwanda’s broader environmental conservation and climate action efforts, which emphasize collective responsibility and community involvement.
