Stella Rusine Nteziryayo has officially assumed office as Director General of the Rwanda Development Bank (BRD), following a formal handover of leadership from her predecessor, Kampeta Pitchette Sayinzoga.

The handover marked the end of Kampeta Pitchette Sayinzoga’s six-year tenure at the helm of BRD and the beginning of a new leadership chapter under Nteziryayo.

Nteziryayo was appointed Director General of BRD on December 24, 2025, after being approved by the Bank’s Board of Directors in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Prior to her appointment, she was already serving as a member of the BRD Board, a role that gives her in-depth knowledge of the institution’s mandate, operations, and strategic priorities.

She brings extensive experience in financial management, institutional governance, credit oversight, and the design of sustainable economic systems. Her professional background spans both policy formulation and financial sector development.

Before joining BRD in her new role, Nteziryayo served at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN) as Director General in charge of Economic Affairs.

In that capacity, she played a key role in shaping policies and strategies aimed at accelerating Rwanda’s economic growth in both the short and long term.

Nteziryayo holds a Master’s degree in Economics.

During Kampeta Pitchette Sayinzoga’s six-year leadership, BRD recorded significant growth and transformation.

The bank’s total assets expanded to Rwf 1,000 billion in 2025, up from Rwf 157 billion in 2019, reflecting strengthened institutional capacity and an expanded development financing portfolio.

Established in 1967, the Rwanda Development Bank plays a central role in financing Rwanda’s development agenda.

The bank supports projects across key sectors including industrial processing, infrastructure development, agriculture, energy, affordable housing, green economy initiatives, and export promotion.

With the leadership transition completed, BRD is expected to continue advancing its mandate of mobilizing and channeling development finance to support Rwanda’s socio-economic transformation.
