The Secretary General of the FPR Inkotanyi, Christophe Bazivamo, on January 20, 2026, held talks with the Ambassador of France to Rwanda, Aurélie Royet-Gounin, focusing on development and investment cooperation.

According to officials, the meeting centered on strengthening bilateral ties in areas of shared interest, particularly investment-driven development.

Royet-Gounin was appointed France’s ambassador to Rwanda on July 15, 2025, by French President Emmanuel Macron, replacing Antoine Anfré, who served for four years.

Since taking up her post, the ambassador has emphasized progress in Rwanda–France relations following the reconciliation process launched in 2021, which restored trust and cooperation after years of strained ties.

She has previously said France intends to maintain close political dialogue with Rwanda as a key partner, including cooperation within multilateral forums such as the United Nations and La Francophonie.

The two countries also continue to work closely on issues related to history and justice, a pillar of their reconciliation.

France has committed to preserving Rwanda’s history, particularly the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, through historical research, the establishment of a memorial in Paris, and academic cooperation with schools and universities.

Rwanda–France relations have expanded in recent years, with Paris and Kigali signing a development cooperation agreement in April 2024.

Under the deal, France committed €400 million, approximately more than Rwf 550 billion to support projects in education, health and climate change adaptation over a five-year period.
