Prime Minister Dr. Nsengiyumva Justin joined residents of Kayonza District on Saturday, 31 January 2026, during a community work initiative (umuganda) to repair the road linking Gahini and Mwiri Sectors, praising their bravery and commitment.
The 36-kilometer road, 19 kilometers of which had been heavily damaged, is vital for farmers to access main roads and transport milk to collection centers. The event, held in Kahi Village, Gahini Sector, was attended by local residents, the Ministers of Local Government and Infrastructure, the Eastern Province Governor, the District Mayor, and other officials.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister said, “Community work is one way Rwandans solve their problems ourselves. When we repair a road like this, we act proactively rather than waiting for outsiders. These efforts build our nation together.” He added, “This is an act of courage. We must preserve unity and continue finding solutions independently.”
Dr. Nsengiyumva highlighted the impact on livestock farmers, noting that the road will allow milk to reach collection points more efficiently, reducing spoilage and benefiting both producers and consumers.
Addressing recent reports of hunger in Kayonza’s Ndego, Rwinkwavu, and Mwiri Sectors, he emphasized that citizens should not face food shortages and urged local authorities to ensure lasting solutions. He also encouraged residents to report poor public services through digital platforms and to uphold courage, unity, and patriotism.
The community work concluded as Rwanda prepares to celebrate National Heroes Day on 1 February 2026.
