European business leaders have welcomed the official opening of the Embassy of Denmark in Rwanda, describing it as a significant step toward deepening trade and investment ties between the two countries.
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, joined members of the European Business Chamber of Rwanda (EBCR) at the inauguration ceremony held in Kigali.
In a statement shared on X, EBCR said the establishment of Denmark’s diplomatic mission in Rwanda is expected to expand bilateral cooperation and unlock new business opportunities.
“We look forward to strong and productive collaboration, particularly in trade and investment,” the chamber noted.
The development comes as European investment in Rwanda continues to grow. According to EBCR, European investors have committed €302 million—over Rwf 410 billion—into Rwanda’s economy over the past five years.
Johanna Sandberg, chief executive officer of EBCR, previously described Rwanda as an attractive destination for investment, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.
“Rwanda is an excellent entry point to the African market. It is safe, governed by the rule of law, and offers a business-friendly environment that supports investors,” she said.
Sandberg added that the number of European investors operating in Rwanda increases each year, with EBCR currently representing 100 member companies and aiming to grow that number to 150 next year.
EBCR comprises 180 members, including 100 European companies, 40 Rwandan firms, and 17 European embassies, reflecting the strengthening economic partnership between Rwanda and Europe.
