The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has announced new retail prices for petrol and diesel, effective for the next two months starting March 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM.
According to a statement posted on its X account, the new maximum price per litre of petrol is Rwf1,989, while diesel will sell at Rwf1,948 per litre. The adjustment represents an increase of Rwf48 per litre for diesel, while petrol prices remain unchanged.
Previously, in November 2025, RURA had set petrol at Rwf1,989 per litre and diesel at Rwf1,900 per litre.
RURA said the price changes reflect fluctuations in the global oil market, as well as measures taken by the Rwandan government to mitigate the impact of rising international fuel costs. The new prices will remain in effect until the next review in two months.
The price adjustment comes amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which has contributed to a 13% increase in global petroleum prices, with crude oil recently reaching $82 per barrel, according to RFI.
To cushion against potential fuel shortages, Rwanda has outlined measures to strengthen domestic petroleum reserves. Minister of Trade and Industry, Sebahizi Prudence, told Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) that investors have pledged to build additional storage facilities to increase national reserves.
“We must support these initiatives to ensure that the construction of storage tanks is completed quickly, allowing us to store petroleum for extended periods,” the minister said.
Rwanda is also coordinating with international suppliers to secure timely deliveries of petroleum despite disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict, ensuring adequate domestic stock upon arrival.
Meanwhile, the National Bank of Rwanda projected on February 19, 2026, that fuel prices in 2026 are expected to decrease by 13% over the course of the year, reflecting global market trends.
