Sports Minister Nelly Mukazayire has held talks with Bouchra Hajij, President of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), as Rwanda moves closer to officially hosting the 2026 African Men’s Club Championship.

Hajij is in Kigali for the signing of a host agreement that will formally confirm Rwanda as the venue for the continental tournament.

According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting took place on Thursday, March 6, 2026, and focused on Rwanda’s readiness to stage the competition, which will run from April 20 to May 3, 2026, in Kigali.

The Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) and CAVB are expected to sign the agreement on Friday, paving the way for the country to host Africa’s top men’s club teams.

The championship brings together national league winners from across the continent and is regarded as one of Africa’s most competitive volleyball tournaments.

The 2025 edition was won by Al-Sweihly SC of Libya, who lifted the trophy on home soil.

Clubs expected to headline the Kigali edition include Egypt’s volleyball powerhouse Al Ahly SC — the competition’s most decorated side with 16 titles — and Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis, among other leading African teams.

Rwanda’s hosting of the tournament further reinforces Kigali’s growing profile as a hub for major continental sporting events.
