Police in Gasabo District have recovered a motorcycle that had been stolen from a resident after vigilant community members alerted authorities about a suspicious sale.
The incident occurred on March 14, 2026, in Mvuzo Cell, Bumbogo Sector, when residents contacted the police after noticing two young men attempting to sell a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen. Responding promptly, police officers arrived at the location where the motorcycle, registered RJ 555 C, was being offered for sale.
Upon being asked to present ownership documents for the motorcycle, the suspects failed to provide any proof of ownership, prompting police to immediately arrest them.
The suspects were identified as Habimana Patrick, 19, and Iradukunda Kevin, 17. During interrogation, they confessed that they had stolen the motorcycle on March 12, 2026, in Nyamiyaga Sector of Gicumbi District, specifically in Jambo Cell. The motorcycle had been parked at Kagamba trading centre when it was taken.
According to police, the suspects had planned to sell the motorcycle for Rwf100,000.
Further investigations confirmed that the motorcycle belongs to Nyamvura Florida, who has since been reunited with her property.
Police commended residents who provided timely information that helped recover the stolen motorcycle and arrest the suspects.
Authorities also warned individuals involved in theft that crime does not offer a sustainable livelihood. They urged those tempted by criminal activities to seek honest work, noting that theft ultimately leads to hardship and legal consequences.
The two suspects are currently detained at Bumbogo Police Station as their case file is being prepared before being handed over to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) for further investigation.
