Rwanda has received 222 citizens who voluntarily returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to rebuild their lives in their home country.

The returnees arrived at the La Corniche border in Rubavu District, where they were welcomed by Deo Nzabonimpa, Rubavu District Deputy Mayor in charge of economic development.

In his remarks, Nzabonimpa urged the returnees to actively contribute to their own livelihoods and the country’s development.

“Welcome home. Your country awaits you to join fellow Rwandans in building a better future,” he said.

The returnees will be temporarily accommodated at Nyarushishi Centre, where they will complete registration and receive support to reintegrate into daily life.

Authorities noted that in recent years, some Rwandans living in the DRC were unable to return due to misinformation. In contrast, others were reportedly detained by the FDLR militia, making this reception a crucial step for safe reintegration.
