Bank of Kigali’s affiliate, BPR Plc, through its #BPRIkamba initiative, has signed a partnership agreement with Volkswagen Rwanda to support women drivers in acquiring their own vehicles and building sustainable livelihoods.
The program targets female drivers working with the Move transport service in Kigali, offering them loans to purchase cars with just 10% down payments and without collateral. Once a driver repays at least half of the loan, she becomes eligible to acquire an additional vehicle, enabling business expansion and higher earnings.
The signing ceremony also recognized outstanding women drivers, awarding them ceremonial sashes as a mark of appreciation and encouragement for their dedication.
Serge Kamuhinda, managing director of Volkswagen Rwanda, described the partnership as a step toward empowering women and fostering long-term economic growth.
He said, “Our goal is to have at least 30% of our partners be women, and we are committed to increasing that number. We thank BPR for their support and shared vision of promoting women’s advancement.”
BPR leadership emphasized that supporting women is key to sustainable development, noting that empowered women not only improve their own lives but also uplift their families and communities.
The first phase of the program will benefit 35 women, with plans to scale up to reach more in the near future. BPR encouraged women to believe in themselves and continue striving for progress and self-reliance.
“Women are queens, and you deserve your crowns,” the bank stated.
