Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected in Kigali to attend the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA), a high-level continental forum focused on advancing nuclear energy development as part of Africa’s long-term energy transition.

The summit will be held at the Kigali Convention Centre, bringing together heads of state, government officials, energy experts, investors and development partners to explore opportunities for expanding nuclear energy use across the continent.

Organisers confirmed the Tanzanian President’s participation, alongside other expected leaders including Faure Gnassingbé and Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine.

The summit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among African countries in developing sustainable and secure energy systems, with emphasis on nuclear energy as a potential driver of industrial growth and economic transformation.

Discussions will also centre on how Africa can leverage nuclear technology to increase electricity generation, support industrialisation, and address persistent energy shortages across the continent.

Rwanda has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for high-level energy and innovation dialogues, while advancing plans to diversify its energy mix and expand generation capacity.

The Rwanda Atomic Energy Board has indicated that Rwanda is exploring nuclear energy development as part of its long-term strategy to boost electricity supply and support industrial expansion.

The summit marks a continued effort to place Africa’s energy future at the centre of continental cooperation and investment discussions.
