The Rwanda Private Sector Federation (PSF) has donated 10 cows to Liberation war veterans with disabilities in Ngororero District, in a gesture of appreciation for their contribution to Rwanda’s liberation and the country’s continued peace and stability.
The donation, made by PSF representatives from the seven districts of Western Province, took place on Thursday during a ceremony attended by government officials, security leaders, private sector representatives, and local residents.
Western Province Governor Jean Bosco Ntibitura commended the private sector for recognising veterans who sustained disabilities during the struggle to liberate Rwanda and stop the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
He said the initiative reflects continued gratitude for the sacrifices made by the veterans, noting that Rwanda’s peace and development are rooted in their courage and selflessness.
“It demonstrates that you recognise the peace we enjoy today as the foundation of the country’s development and achievements,” he said.
Ngororero District Mayor Christophe Nkusi said the nation would continue to honour those who sacrificed their health and wellbeing in the fight to liberate the country.
“You have a lasting bond with Rwanda and all Rwandans. Your bravery remains an important lesson for the younger generation. The country’s leadership will continue to remember you and accord you the recognition you deserve,” he said.
Nkusi also praised the private sector for strengthening collaboration with public institutions in supporting veterans and promoting their welfare.
Maj. Gen. Eugène Nkubito, the Rwanda Defence Force Commander in Western Province, described the donation as a meaningful tribute to men and women whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the country’s enduring peace and security.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the veterans said the cows would improve their livelihoods, noting that cattle remain an important source of household income and food security. He pledged that the beneficiaries would pass on calves to other families in keeping with Rwanda’s culture of community solidarity.
He also thanked President Paul Kagame for leadership that continues to place citizens’ welfare at the centre of national development.
Western Province PSF Chairperson François Twagirumukiza said the donation reflects the private sector’s commitment to giving back to those who sacrificed for Rwanda, while reaffirming its support for initiatives that promote veterans’ welfare and national development.
