President Paul Kagame on Saturday hosted Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for high-level talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and advancing regional peace and security.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, the discussions underscored the strong ties between Rwanda and Uganda and explored ways to enhance cooperation in promoting peace, security and stability across the region.
“President Kagame received Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Their discussions focused on the strong relationship between Rwanda and Uganda, as well as peace and security in the region,” the Presidency said.
General Muhoozi arrived in Rwanda on July 25 for a two-day working visit aimed at further deepening military cooperation between the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).
He was welcomed on arrival by Rwanda’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Mubarakh Muganga, accompanied by Major General Willy Rwagasana, Commander of the Republican Guard.
The visit forms part of ongoing engagements between the two militaries as Kigali and Kampala continue to strengthen defence cooperation following the restoration of relations between the neighbouring countries.
General Muhoozi last visited Rwanda in March 2025, when he held discussions with senior RDF commanders on bilateral military cooperation and toured the Rwanda Military Academy in Nyakinama, Musanze District.
