Rayon Sports Women drawn in Group A for CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Rayon Sports Women have been placed in Group A alongside Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan, Mafunzo SC of Zanzibar and Denden FC of Eritrea in the 2026 CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The draw was conducted on Thursday, July 30, ahead of the regional tournament that will determine the CECAFA representative at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

The ceremony was overseen by CECAFA Marketing and Communications Officer Andrew Jackson Oryada, with support from former Rwanda women’s national team captain Nibagwire Sifa Gloria.

Group B consists of Commercial Bank Ethiopia FC, Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda and FC Ujeco of Djibouti, while Group C features Simba Queens of Tanzania, Kenya Police FC of Kenya and Top Girls Academy of Burundi.

Under the competition format, the top two teams from Group A will advance to the knockout stage, while the winners of Groups B and C will also progress to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, the Group B winners will face the second-placed team from Group A, while the Group A leaders will take on the winners of Group C.

Rayon Sports Women, who reached the final of the previous CECAFA qualifiers, will be looking to secure the regional title and earn a place at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

The 2026 CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers will be hosted by Rwanda from August 21 to 31, with matches set to be played at Kigali Pele Stadium and the FERWAFA technical centre ground in Remera.

The team that finishes top of the tournament will represent the CECAFA region at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
