Rwanda women’s basketball player Dusabe Jane is set to leave APR WBBC for the United States, where she will combine higher education with a new chapter in her basketball career.
The 21-year-old, popularly known as Kabaka, has secured admission to Frank Phillips College (FPC) in Texas and is expected to leave Rwanda after completing her final commitments with APR.
Her move comes just a day after she played her final game for the Army side.
Dusabe featured for APR on Sunday, August 16, in the Cheetah Energy Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) playoff semifinal against REG WBBC. APR lost the best-of-five series 3-2, ending its title hopes and bringing Dusabe’s time with the club to an end.
She has previously played for several of Rwanda’s leading women’s basketball clubs, including REG and The Hoops Rwanda, and has also represented the Rwanda national team.
At Frank Phillips College, Dusabe will continue her studies while playing basketball, giving her an opportunity to develop her career in the US college system.
She will become the latest Rwandan athlete to join the Texas-based institution.
Former APR Women’s Volleyball Club player Uwiringiyimana Albertine, popularly known as Alba, recently joined Frank Phillips College, where she is also pursuing her studies while continuing her volleyball career.
Dusabe’s move marks another step in the growing movement of Rwandan athletes using US college programmes to combine competitive sport with higher education.
